Sherita Sparrow is the CEO, Founder and Primary Art
Specialist of The Feather’s Touch, a holistic therapeutic company that
utilizes art to enhance the quality of life for seniors living in nursing
homes, assisted communities and adult day cares.
The Feather’s Touch started in 2003 after Sherita realized her passion and love for art could be used to mentally and physically stimulate an individual to explore and appreciate their personal creativity. Sherita Sparrow holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art from Towson University with more than 10 years of experience teaching art to children and adults. Her extensive art background varies from Graphic Design to painting theater backdrops and murals.
Ms. Sparrow’s determination
for a successful entrepreneurship pushed her to continually expand her
knowledge and experience to establish a solid foundation for a therapeutic art
service that could benefit the community. These efforts were complimented
by her completion of Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore (W.E.B), becoming a
Certified Activity Professional through NCCAP and a Certified Dementia Practitioner from NCCDP.
Sherita has been featured in local articles, such as the Delaware News Journal, Delaware Today Magazine, Catonsville
Times (MD) and recently in the Sussex Countian (DE) . She has
received numerous awards and recognition for volunteering in the community. One
of her most memorable volunteerism efforts was at the Delaware YWCA. Sherita was able to use art therapy to inspire women to regain their
self-worth and empowerment, while moving towards independence.
Ms. Sparrow is currently exploring the possibilities of
using therapeutic art to enhance the hospice community. Her work with seniors
have shown that therapeutic art restores and maintains their highest level of
functionality, such as exercising their cognitive skills, dexterity and
concentration as well as allowing for social opportunities and memory
enhancement, which is beneficial for residents with Alzheimer's or
Dementia.
